The Zoning Ordinance for the Town of Ramseur was initially adopted by the Board of Commissioners in 1955 and readopted and revised in 1994. Because zoning is a work in progress and is subject to regular changes in legislation, the Zoning Ordinance has incurred many additions and changes since even 1994.

The purpose for zoning in the Town is to promote both the orderly development of land and the public health, safety, and general welfare within Ramseur’s corporate limits. The Zoning Ordinance also regulates locations and use of structures and land for trade, industry, residences, and purposes other than farming.

Ramseur's Planning Board meets at the Ramseur Municipal Building on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. The five members of the Planning Board are appointed by the Board of Commissioners and serve terms of four years in length. The members are charged with duties such as assisting in zoning enforcement, reviewing plans to ensure compliance with the Zoning Ordinance, recommending appropriate amendments to the Ordinance, and making recommendations to the Board of Commissioners with regard to zoning decisions. Requests concerning zoning should be brought to the Municipal Building during regular business hours. Matters which require review by the Planning Board should be brought to the Town Administrator, who also serves as the Town’s Zoning Administrator, at least ten business days prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Board.

There is currently a vacancy for the alternate member position on the Planning Board. Interested parties should complete the Application document and return it Town Hall. The Planning Board is comprised solely of residents of the Town of Ramseur.
